Sonja Gunhild Alvina Johnson Twombly passed away February 19, 2024.  She was born on July 26, 1927 in DeKalb County to Edward Albert and Elin Karolina (Floit) Johnson.  Sonja graduated from Sycamore High School in 1945 and kept in contact with classmates for her entire life, meeting monthly for breakfast.  She married Henry James Twombly on November 28, 1948 in Batavia, Illinois.  Sonja is survived by three children; Gregory (Sheryl) Twombly of Wenatchee Washington, Tamara (John) Bloom of Rockford Illinois, and Richard (Melisa) Twombly of Oregon Illinois; 7 grandchildren David Twombly, Caryn (Michael) Hinderlider, Rhya (Matthew) Miller, Joanna (Andy) Wiser, Rachel Bloom Lancaster, Corey (Laura) Twombly, and Bret (Jamie) Twombly; 11 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.  She was predeceased by her husband and soul-mate Henry, her son Daniel, her parents, and her older sister Eva who tragically died at the age of four.  Sonja's greatest joy in life was her family, friends, church family, reading, and knitting.  Our family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to Christy and Al Hawkins who helped care for Sonja during her final days, to Grace from Home Instead, and to the nurses from Northern Illinois Hospice.  Plans are being made for a private family celebration of life closer to Sonja’s birthday.  Any memorials will be given to the Lindenwood Union Church where Hank and Sonja attended and enjoyed many wonderful years.
