MAPLE PARK — A winless start to the Interstate 8 Conference schedule continued Friday evening, when the Rochelle Hub varsity baseball team concluded its three-game series against Kaneland with an 8-0 shutout loss to the Knights. Rochelle (4-10, 0-6 Interstate 8) will resume conference play on Monday evening, when the Hubs will start their series against Morris.
Zach Konrad belted a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning to give Kaneland a 1-0 lead. The Knights surged ahead in the bottom of the third inning, tallying five runs on two hits including a two-run double from Parker Violett. Tom Thill scored on an error and Matthew Brunscheen laced an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning to put Kaneland ahead 8-0.
Rochelle was held to four hits in the loss on Friday. Junior Ethan Goodwin doubled in the top of the third inning, while junior Carson Lewis singled in the top of the fourth inning. Senior Brock Metzger and sophomore Brode Metzger singled over the fifth and sixth innings for the Hubs.
