ROCHELLE — Senior Parker Lenkaitis and sophomore Mark Green went three sets in their No. 1 doubles match against LaSalle-Peru’s Danny Santoy and Andrew Bollis on Tuesday, giving the Rochelle Hub varsity tennis team its best chance to take a point from the Cavaliers.

In a highly contested match that was decided by only a few games, Lenkaitis and Green rallied to win the second set before falling just short in the third set to concede a 4-6, 6-4, 5-7 loss. Their performance was the highlight of the evening for the Hubs, who were handed a 5-0 shutout loss in Interstate 8 Conference play. Rochelle (3-6, 1-4 Interstate 8) will be back in action with a nonconference home match against Sterling on Thursday evening.

The Hubs conceded all three doubles points as well as both singles points against the Cavaliers. Seniors Austin Raleigh and Eli Luxton took a total of six games in their 2-6, 4-6 loss against Michael Peters and Devyn Castelli at No. 3 doubles, while senior Alex McBride and sophomore Caleb Mortensen fell 0-6, 3-6 to Colin Krug and Michael Milota at No. 2 doubles.

In singles, senior Jimmy Chavez played a strong second set in his 1-6, 4-6 loss against Jackson Sellett at the No. 1 court, while sophomore Philip Winters opened with a strong effort during his 5-7, 2-6 loss against John Crane at the No. 2 singles court.
