OTTAWA — Junior Makayla Lara and senior Kara Martinez each scored two goals to lead the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity soccer team in its Interstate 8 match at Ottawa on Tuesday evening.

It was a season-best offensive effort from the Lady Hubs, who turned in 21 total shots including 10 shots on goal against the Pirates on Tuesday. Rochelle was unable to keep Ottawa at bay, however, as the Pirates capitalized on their 10 shots on goal with six goals to edge the Lady Hubs 6-4. Rochelle (2-13, 0-8 Interstate 8) will face LaSalle-Peru on the road Wednesday.

The Pirates struck first on Tuesday, scoring in the 12th minute before Rochelle answered with an equalizer in the 16th minute, when Lara cashed in her first goal on an assist from Martinez. Lara returned the favor for Martinez in the 37th minute, when the junior midfielder found the senior forward on a pass to give the Lady Hubs a 2-1 advantage. Ottawa bounced right back with its second goal of the match, scoring in the 42nd minute to tie the match at 2-2.

Rochelle sent in two second-half goals, with junior midfielder Emma Kennay assisting Martinez in the 71st minute and Lara scoring an unassisted goal in the 74th minute. But the Lady Hubs couldn’t contain the Pirates, who cashed in four goals over the later portion of the second half. Senior Danica Ward recorded eight saves in net for the Lady Hubs in the loss on Tuesday.
