Musical talent affording Tilton opportunity

Modified: Thursday, Feb 16th, 2017

Rochelle Township High School student Alec Tilton has a wealth of opportunities ahead. As the countdown to graduation begins, the musically and academically talented senior is setting his sights on a couple of career options as either a scientist or a musician.

Musically, Tilton is involved in just about everything offered at RTHS from playing the euphonium in concert band and marching band along with the trombone in jazz band. He also sings as a bass in concert choir and as a tenor in the vocal jazz group, Midnight Voices.

Tilton and the Midnight Voices members recently traveled to New Orleans to perform at a jazz conference.

“It was fun to perform and get to have everyone see us how we do things, but my favorite part was walking around afterwards. Going to the exhibition halls and colleges to meet some of the people who built vocal jazz…it’s my favorite genre to perform. It’s fun to be a part of the world of jazz,” Tilton said.

Growing up, like most young boys, Tilton wanted to be a firefighter or a pro football player. Becoming an author or inventor was also a possibility. Already accepted to St. Ambrose in Davenport, Iowa, Tilton also likes Washington University in St. Louis, and the University of Chicago.
