Three months ago Cole Thomas stated he was a fighter and would not give up. This January he is proving that he is determined to continue moving forward and will not give up.

On Sept. 19, 2016 Thomas was involved in a car accident that left him unable to walk. Days after the accident Thomas posted a video plea online stating he was determined to walk again and asking for advice and help. He spent the remainder of the year in physical therapy in Chicago.

Thomas ended 2016 on a high note by standing up on his own using a table and doorknob for support. A week later, on Jan. 6, he took his first steps with a walker and has not stopped. On Monday, Jan. 9 Thomas was able to walk 500 feet during a physical therapy test.

Thomas credits pool therapy to helping him progress so quickly from standing up to walking and walking a great distance within such a short time.

Beginning Dec. 22 and continuing once a week, Thomas participates in pool therapy and has seen his body and strength take great strides since starting work in the water. Thomas explained the first time he stepped in the pool, he struggled to get into the pool and stand in the water. The following week, Thomas took a few steps and was able to get waist deep before his leg gave out. Last Thursday, Jan. 5 Thomas was able to enter the pool and walk back and fourth four times.

“Pool therapy is number one to help getting me moving,” stated Thomas. “Pool therapy was the biggest game changer. I encourage anyone who is undergoing therapy to look into pool therapy.”

While Thomas credits pool therapy for helping build up his strength and getting him moving again, the fighter pushes himself daily to get to the point he is at.

“I am doing very good,” stated Thomas who has been in therapy for almost four months. “It is amazing, a miracle, I am amazed at how well I am doing.”
