The Rochelle Little League 10-11 All-Stars continued their run at the Illinois Little League State Championship on Monday evening, but the boys had their title hopes dashed by Tri Cities in the losers bracket quarterfinals. Rochelle lost by a score of 16-1 to finish 1-2 at the state championship.

FREEPORT — The Rochelle Little League 10-11 All-Stars continued their run at the Illinois Little League State Championship on Monday evening, but the boys had their title hopes dashed by Tri Cities in the losers bracket quarterfinals. Rochelle lost by a score of 16-1 to finish 1-2 at the state championship.
Rochelle scored its lone run in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead over Tri Cities when Grant Gensler singled and scored on an RBI double by Brode Metzger. Tri Cities, who fell against Rochelle 2-0 in the sub-state tournament at Streamwood, exploded for eight runs in the top of the second inning to jump ahead 8-1.
Tri Cities poured more runs on Rochelle in the top of the third inning, scoring eight more to create a 15-run lead. Rochelle was shut down in order during the bottom of the third inning to end the game in favor of Tri Cities by run rule. Rochelle totaled two hits in the loss and Metzger had Rochelle’s lone strikeout on the mound.
