The Rochelle Little League 11-12 Boys All-Stars began the District 19 Championship earlier this week, and the kids won two consecutive games to clinch their spot in the finals Friday evening. Rochelle took down Rock Falls by a score of 11-0 on Monday before defeating Freeport on Tuesday by a score of 7-2.

ROCK FALLS — The Rochelle Little League 11-12 Boys All-Stars began the District 19 Championship earlier this week, and the kids won two consecutive games to clinch their spot in the finals Friday evening. Rochelle took down Rock Falls by a score of 11-0 on Monday before defeating Freeport on Tuesday by a score of 7-2.

Monday

Colton O’Rorke singled to ignite a six-run rally for Rochelle in the top of the second inning against Rock Falls. Christian Burnette doubled to plate O’Rorke, and Brock Metzger reached on an error before Tommy Tourdot walked and Dylan Gapski reached on an error to score Burnette. Braden Hunley singled to plate Metzger, and Tourdot scored on a sacrifice fly by Noah Lara. Both Gapski and Hunley scored on a two-RBI double by Erich Metzger.

Rochelle added one run in the top of the third inning to take a 7-0 lead over Rock Falls. Burnette singled before Tourdot walked and Burnette scored on a wild pitch. Rochelle tallied one more run to make it 8-0 in the top of the fourth inning after Gapski walked, Lara reached on an error, Landon DeLille walked and O’Rorke hit an RBI groundout to plate Gapski.

Rochelle scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning before shutting Rock Falls down in the bottom half to secure the win. Brock doubled to center with one out before scoring on Gapski’s RBI single to center with two outs. Aidan Rodriguez singled to keep Rochelle going, and Lara singled to plate Gapski. Rodriguez scored on an error.

Burnette tossed five innings for Rochelle, striking out 12 Rock Falls batters and allowing just one hit to earn the win.

Tuesday

Rochelle took a 2-0 lead over Freeport with two runs in the top of the first inning. Rodriguez and Lara walked before Rodriguez scored when Erich reached on an error. Lara scored on a double-play grounder by O’Rorke.

Freeport cut the Rochelle lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the second inning, and Freeport tied the game at 2-2 with one run in the bottom of the third inning. Rochelle bounced back with four runs in the top of the fourth inning to jump ahead 6-2. O’Rorke and Burnette walked before Paul Swartz reached on a fielder’s choice and Brock drove O’Rorke and Swartz in on a two-RBI triple. Tourdot walked to keep Rochelle alive in the inning, and Gapski hit an RBI single to score Brock. Omar Hueramo singled to plate Tourdot.

Rochelle tallied one insurance run in the top of the sixth inning. Rodriguez walked and scored on an RBI double by Erich. O’Rorke started and earned the win for Rochelle, throwing four innings and striking out eight Freeport hitters. Erich pitched two innings of relief, striking out three batters.
