The Rochelle Little League 11-12 Girls All-Stars hosted the District 19 Championship at Floyd J. Tilton Park this past weekend. Rochelle opened the tournament with a loss against Rock Falls before falling to Sterling in consolation play. Rochelle finished 0-2 overall.

ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Little League 11-12 Girls All-Stars hosted the District 19 Championship at Floyd J. Tilton Park this past weekend. Rochelle opened the tournament with a loss against Rock Falls before falling to Sterling in consolation play. Rochelle finished 0-2 overall.
Opener
Rock Falls and Rochelle faced off in the opening round of the championship bracket Saturday afternoon, with Rock Falls topping Rochelle by a score of 14-7. Rock Falls started strong, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first inning before adding four runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 10-0 lead over Rochelle. Riley Zimmerman singled for Rochelle in the top of the first inning, while Hayvin Neale added a single in the top of the second inning.
Rochelle scored four runs in the top of the third inning, while Rock Falls plated two more runs in the bottom of the third inning to make the score 12-4 in favor of Rock Falls. Zimmerman and Addie Villalobos each walked to begin Rochelle’s frame, while Lauren Dyer and Laney Hicks each drew two-out walks to continue the rally. Neale, Chloe Treadway and Sejah Bergeron added three straight walks.
Rochelle added three more runs in the top of the fourth inning to cut the Rock Falls lead to 12-7. Villalobos singled before Rochelle singled in four straight at-bats courtesy of Miranda Dubek, Dyer, Hicks and Neale. Rock Falls scored twice in the bottom of the fifth inning to put the game out of Rochelle’s reach.
Finale
Rochelle battled Sterling in consolation play Sunday afternoon, losing by a score of 10-1 to drop out of district contention. Sterling tallied one run in the top of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead over Rochelle. Ella Alfano singled for Rochelle in the bottom of the second inning, and Sterling added four runs in the top of the third inning to increase its lead to 5-0.
Rochelle scored its lone run when Zimmerman walked, Addie Friestad singled and Zimmerman crossed home plate in the bottom of the third inning to make it a 5-1 game. Sterling plated two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to jump ahead 9-1 before adding one run in the top of the sixth inning. Kaelyn Williams singled for Rochelle in the bottom of the sixth inning.
