STERLING — A pair of swift victories over Rock Falls and Sterling has the Rochelle Little League 9-10 Boys All-Star Team in the final round of the 2017 Illinois Little League District 19 Championship.
Rochelle began the district tournament with an 11-0 victory over Rock Falls on Thursday before taking down Sterling by a score of 13-0 on Friday to clinch its spot in the finals. The All-Stars will play for the district title on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Rock Falls
Brandyn Metzger led the Rochelle 9-10 Boys All-Star Team against Rock Falls on Thursday, going 1-for-2 with a team-high three runs scored while throwing four innings and striking out eight batters. Brode Metzger and Elijah Harley each recorded two RBIs to lead the Rochelle offense, while Kaiden Morris and Lucas Smardo combined for two more RBIs. Carson Lewis went 1-for-2 with two runs scored at the top of the Rochelle batting order.
Sterling
Brode Metzger had a big game at the plate on Friday, going 2-for-3 with a team-high four RBIs and two runs scored. Harley added three RBIs and three run scored, while Morris went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Grant Gensler and Dalton Merriman each recorded a base hit in the victory.
Harley picked up the win on the pitcher’s mound, tossing two and two-thirds innings to start the game. Brode Metzger and Gensler teamed up to strike out five batters in relief.
