I am guessing I am not the only person tired of Covid 19.
I am tired of staying in the house. I am tired of wearing a mask. I am tired of politicians making this a partisan issue.
I know small businesses are threatened, their owners facing bankruptcy. The owner of White Pines Resort announced this week she was done…bankrupt…caput…because of Covid 19.
Some businesses will undoubtedly not reopen. They won’t have the financial resources to weather the storm.
So what am I going to do about it?
I am going to continue to stay home as much as possible. I will continue to wear a mask when I do venture among other people. I will keep safe distances, even among close friends.
Why? Because I believe the experts who tell us that the way to contain this disease is to limit exposure.
I have been hearing the expression, “When we get back to normal.” Personally, I don’t think we can return to “normal.” In fact, we may not want to return to normal.
Look what normal has brought us: Record unemployment, shuttered shops, closed schools, stressed first responders, ever increasing lines at food banks, people losing housing because they lost their job.
It’s not socialism or communism or any other “ism” to make sure American workers have adequate job protections and adequate benefits if their jobs are lost or to make sure everyone has health insurance or food or housing.
Now is the time for our elected leaders to figure out ways to recreate a better economy, a better citizenry, a better way of living for all of us, not just the upper one percent.
