A lesson about native Americans

ROCHELLE — Young students in the Rochelle Elementary School District wrapped up a history lesson with a captivating presentation from a Nachusa Grasslands volunteer.
The second graders from Lincoln, May and Tilton schools have been studying the American West and more specifically the relationship between the bison, prairies, settlers, Native Americans and the government, past and present.
Teacher Kristen Kida organized the learning event and arranged for Master Naturalist Joe Richardson to present the information to about 100 students.
“Our literature program, Wit and Wisdom, spends a great deal of time revisiting a topic for several different purposes over a period of time,” Kida explained. “Mr. Richardson shared a deeper perspective on the topics we are studying through a slideshow, authentic artifacts and his personal experience. The students have become well versed in the subjects as related to our text exploration and this presentation was a fitting tie-in to what they have learned thus far about the time period.”
