ROCHELLE — Last Saturday marked the occasion of Rochelle’s first street performer, Eliza Petry, who provided guitar and vocals during the CAN Food Truck Festival near the gazebo on North Main Street.
It’s a first for the ‘Hub City’ following council’s approval of an ordinance last month that allows permits for street entertainment to be issued. Performers are allowed to perform in designated areas, which include the Community Gazebo, front lawn at Rochelle Municipal Utilities Office, Corners of Fourth and Fifth Avenues on Lincoln Highway, and Page Park off of Lincoln Highway in downtown Rochelle.
Michelle Pease, Community Development and Tourism Director said the day couldn’t have been better for Rochelle’s first street performer.
“I think Ms. Petry did well with receiving tips! We encourage quality street performers to submit their information for review,” Pease said. “Quality street performers are a way to encourage activity and energy in our downtown. I’m excited to see what is next.”
The city established several guidelines for street performers, beginning with a written application for a permit. There is a $10 annual fee and the permit is not transferable. For a complete list of guidelines, rules, and regulations, please visit the Community Development department on North Sixth Street or call 815-562-8717 for more information.
