An accident involving a single semi truck Tuesday morning blocked traffic at IL Route 251 under the I-88 overpass.
Rochelle Fire crews were dispatched shortly after 7 a.m. Tuesday morning for an accident involving a semi truck. Preliminary reports indicate the driver, headed eastbound on Interstate 88, driving into the grassy median between the east and westbound traffic going over the bridge at IL Rte. 251, striking the overpass support.
The driver had to be extricated from the cab and was taken to Rochelle Community Hospital.
“It doesn’t appear on scene as though there were any life threatening injuries,” Chief Dave Sawlsville, Rochelle Fire Dept. said.
The driver was hauling dry ice and although the spillage of the contents made for a foggy scene, Sawlsville said the materials are not hazardous.
“An IDOT engineer is on scene evaluated the concrete upright for any possible damages,” Sawlsville said.
The inside lane of westbound Interstate 88 remains closed at this time. Illinois State Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
Rochelle Police and the Ogle County Sheriff's office also assisted.
