Ace Hardware opening event draws big crowds

ROCHELLE – Rochelle Ace Hardware has been open on the corner of Flagg Road and IL Route 251 since March 1 and celebrated with a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony that drew constant traffic all last weekend.

Store owner Chris Amir said since taking over, the store has undergone a full store reset making it a unique experience for shoppers, as this particular location features a few sections a traditional hardware store may not.
“For this Ace, one of the things that really stands out is our home décor section, our “Hub City” spirit wear and our retro soda. We are not your normal hardware store,” said Josh Crofton, store manager.
During the planning of the Grand Opening celebration, Ace Hardware recommends certain activities and sales, but Amir wanted to do something much bigger. He came up with the idea of having a big celebration with giveaways, a free-to-enter raffle and a “sale of all sales.”
The weekend long celebration included raffling off a Weber grill and 10 gallons of paint, plus giving away 300, 32-gallon trash cans. Along with the giveaways, Ace was offering 50 percent off anything under $30 on Friday, 20 percent off everything in the store on Saturday and 50 percent off anything shoppers were able to fit into a bucket they purchased for $1 on Sunday.
Store employees were expecting a good turnout, but never imagined the amount of people who actually showed up.
“Saturday morning, we had probably about 75 or 80 people lined up at the front door before we even opened,” exclaimed Crofton.
The owner and employees want the community to know that they are here for more than just sales.
“We are a different kind of business and our focus is the customers, we want to provide the best customer service experience we can. It is more than just selling hardware,” Crofton added.
Ace Hardware is open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day except for Sunday, when the store is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
