All aspects of public safety

Public safety is job number one and it is the most important function of local government. However, public safety encompasses so much more than what we traditionally think of, which is police and fire.

Absolutely our police officers and firefighters provide a level of protection of the public that is unmatched and extremely important. They risk their lives every day to protect us, our families and our communities. I know I feel better every time I drive past a police vehicle on the road or see our firefighters training and going to calls.

Yet the concept of public safety goes beyond the confines of the police and fire services. It also encapsulates our public works and utility workers. These are the folks that keep our streets clear, oversee the proper disposal of garbage, ensure that our water is safe to drink and that our waste is treated properly for the protection of our community and environment.

Further, these are the folks that work to keep our lights on every second of every day and when the power goes out, no matter the time or temperature, they are the ones that answer the calls to restore services to keep us safe and comfortable.

Adding another layer of public safety is our community development and code enforcement staff. They ensure buildings open to the public in Rochelle are safe from many dangers. This team works to ensure property values are protected and, in many cases, public heath nuisances are addressed.

Thank you to all our amazing employees that protect us daily and ensure our community remains a safe and wonderful place to live, work and relax.
