ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Rotary Club received the 2017 Rochelle Community Gratitude Award, the eighth year that the award has been given.
Celebrating the 76th year, the Rochelle Rotary Club started in 1941 and is a contributor to organizations and special projects in the community, including the Interact Bridge Project, the HUB Project, and improvements to the band shell at Atwood Park. The group has also helped fill sandbags, cleaned up the bike path, and planted trees in Skare Park.
“It is an absolute blessing to the community of Rochelle to have a group like that,” said John Bearrows as he presented the plaque to Rochelle Rotary representative Geri Hayden.
In the 2016-17 year, the Rochelle Rotary Club donated more than $100,000 to projects in the community.
Hayden thanked the city and was honored the Rotary Club received the award, citing the group’s passion in helping the community.
