Appeals board to consider dog breeding facility in county

OREGON — The Ogle County Zoning Board of Appeals will consider whether to grant a special use permit for a dog kennel operation, which also includes dog breeding, grooming, and obedience training.
The petitioners, Robert DeCosta and Christie Hardt, also desire to import and sell puppies along with accessories and food sales.
The petitioners will present a power point program at the next Ogle County Zoning Board of Appeals meeting on March 30 at 6 p.m., to be held at the Ogle County Courthouse.
DeCosta and Hardt filed the petition in late February with the intention of operating at a facility to be built on property located off of Dutch Road in Kings. Both currently own and operate B & C Kennels in Clare, located in DeKalb County.
Hardt said they have outgrown their facility in Clare.
“We don’t want to expand at our current location,” Hardt said. “However, we have applied in DeKalb County to get our present permit to be expanded. Our present plan is to have sales, obedience and grooming take place in Ogle and continue to breed and board in Clare.”
