MAPLE PARK — Rochelle junior Katherine Bakken was exactly 8 seconds away from qualifying for the state cross country meet when she and senior teammates Hannah Cruz and Claire Plapp raced in the IHSA Class 2A Sectional at Kaneland High School this past Saturday.
Bakken finished 22nd overall with a time of 18:52.2. Hampshire senior Sophia Oury placed 16th in 18:44.2 to grab the seventh and final individual qualification spot. Plapp clocked in at 21:06.9 to finish 111th, while Cruz placed 116th with a time of 21:11.6.
The IHSA Class 2A State Meet will be held at Detweiller Park in Peoria on Saturday, Nov. 4.
