ROCHELLE — A display inside a downtown Rochelle furniture store has been catching the eye of the community.
Situated inside the Hub City Furniture windows are pictures of all 42 decorated hay bales from this year’s community event. It is something Susan Andracke has done since the straw sculpting competition three years ago when the city began celebrating Hay Day.

“I thought the straw sculptures were very well done and the one of the Statue of Liberty out by the Sullivan’s store was rather amazing,” Andracke said. “I took pictures of all of those and sent them to my daughter to show her what was happening in Rochelle. Pretty soon the hay bales started appearing around town so I ended up taking pictures of them.”
Shortly thereafter, and again for last year’s Hay Day, Andracke assembled a picture album for the Downtown Rochelle Association; they have been on display at the annual DRA meetings.
The pictures that are currently inside the store window will be placed in the album with the others after Thanksgiving.
“People really enjoy looking at all of the hay bales and children love pointing to the one from their school or one from their church,” she added.
