The Rochelle varsity baseball team hosted Senior Night against LaSalle-Peru to close out both the regular season and conference play on Monday. The Cavaliers ralled from a 1-0 deficit to score seven unanswered runs and beat the Hubs by a final score of 7-1. Rochelle enters the postseason 15-8 overall and 6-6 in the Northern Illinois Big 12 West.

Baseball: Hubs host LaSalle-Peru for Senior Night

Rochelle closes out regular season with 7-1 loss to Cavaliers

ROCHELLE — The Rochelle varsity baseball team hosted Senior Night against LaSalle-Peru to close out both the regular season and conference play on Monday. The Cavaliers ralled from a 1-0 deficit to score seven unanswered runs and beat the Hubs by a final score of 7-1. Rochelle enters the postseason 15-8 overall and 6-6 in the Northern Illinois Big 12 West.

Senior Brandon Johnson singled and score on junior Gavin Ansteth’s RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the first inning. Rochelle totaled two hits, four walks and one hit-by-pitch over the remaining six innings. LaSalle-Peru scored four runs on two walks and two Rochelle errors to take a 4-1 lead in the top of the third inning.

The Cavaliers singled, walked twice and reached once on an error to plate two runs and go ahead 6-1 in the top of the sixth inning. LaSalle-Peru singled and scored on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh inning for its final run of the game. Senior Johnny Beck pitched five innings for Rochelle, striking out eight batters and allowing two hits.

The third-seeded Hubs begin the IHSA Class 3A Rochelle Regional against the sixth-seeded Freeport Pretzels on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. The winner advances to play in the finals on Saturday at 1 p.m.
