Rochelle senior Kyler Lara will have one more season with the Hub baseball team, but the right-handed third baseman and pitcher has already made a decision about his future.

Lara recently signed to continue his academics and his baseball career with Kishwaukee College next year. Lara, who said he’s considering studying business, will be entering his fourth season with the Rochelle baseball program when the Hubs take the field this spring.

“I really like the coaches and I thought it was a really good opportunity for me to play at the collegiate level,” Lara said. “It was a better fit for me so I can stay closer to home. I’m looking forward to the level of talent and experience I will be playing with and against… I feel most comfortable playing third base and pitching, but I’m willing to play wherever the team needs me and I’m just very grateful for the opportunity to play baseball at the next level.”

Lara will be one of several seniors looking to step up for the Hubs this spring. Despite losing his junior season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Lara spent his first two high school seasons with the sophomore team, playing up as a freshman. Both his bat and his arm will be counted on as the Hubs swing for their third consecutive winning season at the varsity level.

“I’ve learned a lot throughout my time at RTHS,” Lara said. “Coach [Jarrod] Reynolds has helped me a lot with throwing drills and arm care and he’s helped me a lot with making this decision. I expect to pitch well this season, but I’d like to increase my stamina and go longer into games. I’d also like to improve more at the plate and in the field.”

“I’m happy for Kyler,” Reynolds added. “It’s always exciting to see one of our players move on and have an opportunity to play at the next level. I’m looking forward to watching Kyler at Kishwaukee College in upcoming seasons.”
