The Rochelle varsity baseball team picked conference play back up against LaSalle-Peru on Monday, with the Hubs hanging on to defeat the Cavaliers by a score of 7-5 to improve to 15-6 overall and 6-5 in the Northern Illinois Big 12 West. Senior Brandon Johnson pitched six innings and struck out eight batters.

LASALLE — The Rochelle varsity baseball team picked conference play back up against LaSalle-Peru on Monday, with the Hubs hanging on to defeat the Cavaliers by a score of 7-5 to improve to 15-6 overall and 6-5 in the Northern Illinois Big 12 West. Senior Brandon Johnson pitched six innings and struck out eight batters.
Rochelle scored two runs in the top of the third inning to lead 2-0. Johnson and senior Johnny Beck singled and scored on a two-run single by junior Gavin Ansteth. LaSalle-Peru tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning with two runs on three singles and one hit-by-pitch.
Beck’s single and Ansteth’s hit-by-pitch preceded senior Noah Knight’s three-run homer to left field that plated three runs and gave the Hubs a 5-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning. Senior Cody Johnson delivered a two-run homer to center in the top of the seventh inning to put Rochelle ahead 7-2 entering the bottom of the seventh.
LaSalle-Peru rallied for three runs on one single, one walk and two Rochelle errors in the seventh inning, but the Cavaliers grounded out and struck out to end the game.
