STERLING — The Rochelle varsity baseball team mustered only two hits during its series-opening conference game against Sterling on Monday. The Golden Warriors took advantage of three Rochelle errors to defeat the Hubs 4-0 and drop Rochelle to 13-4 overall. Senior Cody Johnson and junior Ethan Etes each had singles for the Hubs, while senior Hayden Jones and junior Gavin Ansteth walked twice.
Sterling walked and singled to plate one run and lead 1-0 after the first inning. The Golden Warriors singled and reached twice on errors in the fourth inning, scoring twice to go ahead of the Hubs 3-0. Back-to-back singles led to another Sterling run in the sixth inning. Senior Brandon Johnson pitched all six innings for Rochelle, striking out seven and allowing five hits and two earned runs.
