Be part of the ‘mane’ event

ROCHELLE – The Pegasus Special Riders Organization is hosting a night of great food and live entertainment to support a good cause.
The Pegasus Special Riders is an organization that has been offering therapy to people with disabilities through interaction with horses for 23 years.
No matter the individual’s skill level, whether it is riding or grooming the horses, there is something for everyone at Pegasus.
“The classes are geared toward a person’s capabilities, some of the riders can ride all by themselves in the arena,” said Pegasus administrator Ellie Brauhn. “While some need a person to lead the horse and others need someone to lead the horse and another person to make sure that they don’t fall out of the saddle.”
There are also a variety of activities that involve riding around barrels and different colored cones.
The upcoming event is Pegasus’ annual fundraiser and fittingly called The “Mane” Event. It will take place on Nov. 2 at the Mills & Petrie Memorial Building on Illinois Route 38 in Ashton.

The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. with appetizers and cocktails available for purchase. At 6:30 p.m. an extensive buffet catered by Ralphie and Lulu’s of Ashton will be served for dinner. Exit 99 Improv Troupe members from the Vince Carney Community Theater will entertain after dinner and both a live and silent auction will be held.
Tickets for the event are $50 per person and include admission and dinner — cocktails and appetizers are not included in the ticket price. Reservations must be made by Friday, Oct. 25, and can be done over the phone by calling 815-973-3177 or via e-mail at admin@pegasusspecialriders.org.

All funds earned will go to the Pegasus rider’s organization and will be used on operation costs such as hay for the horses, maintenance equipment and veterinary bills.
While this is a fundraising event, it is also a great way for more people to learn about the organization.

“We are sort of in the middle of nowhere out here in the country. We speak at different places and things, but unless someone has a person with special needs or they have horses, it is difficult for us to be seen,” Brauhn explained. “So, this is a way to get us out there so people can see us and find out what we do.”
For people who are not able to attend but would still like to support the Pegasus Special Riders, the organization is always accepting donations by mail at Pegasus Special Riders, P.O. Box 293, Oregon, IL, 61061.
