ROCHELLE — Beatrice “Peggy” L. Phipps, 94, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 1 at OSF St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford. Peggy was born on Dec. 10, 1927 in Rochelle to Dave and Althea (Coombes) Meisener. Since both parents died in 1930, Peggy and her sisters, Maurine and Vivian, lived with their oldest sister, Etta Mae. She attended Rochelle schools, graduating from Rochelle Township High School in 1945. From 1945 to June 1949, she was the receptionist for local dentists: L.W. Masters, C.E. Motlong and J.S. Wilson.
On March 31, 1949, Peggy married Richard S. Phipps of Steward in Rochelle’s Old Brick Methodist Church. She was wife, mother and homemaker until July 1967 when she re-entered the work force as an employee of Rochelle Printing, retiring in May 2006.
She was a member of the Rochelle Methodist Church since her confirmation in 1939, a member of the Order of Eastern Star since 1951 and a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of V.F.W. Post #3878.
Peggy is survived by her four daughters: Marcia Forlenza of Zion, Illinois, Pamela (Gayle) Phipps of Loves Park, Paula Phipps of Fayetteville, Arkansas and Ellen Phipps Brown of Lexington, Kentucky; two sons: Jerry (Janet) Phipps of Gainesville, Florida and Jim Phipps of Rochelle; sister, Maurine Busdosh of Phoenix, Arizona; three grandchildren: Jennifer Forlena, Dr. Alex (Grace) Phipps, and Aimee (PJ) Joanos; three great grandsons; two great granddaughters and two great great granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; sons-in-law, Chris Brown and Dan Forlenza; six sisters and her brother killed in World War II.
A memorial visitation will be from 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle. The memorial service will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Katherine Paisley officiating at the funeral home.
