Betty June (Elliott) Dearth

Betty June (Elliott) Dearth

ROCHELLE — Betty June (Elliott) Dearth, age 101, of Rochelle, passed to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, May 21, 2023. She was born on December 21, 1921, to Floyd and Grace Elliott in Scottsburg, Indiana joining her two older sisters, Florida Catherine  (Roy) Christianson and Marjorie May (Robert) Meredith .

She worked the family farm with her family through the Depression. Betty married Joseph L. Dearth, from DeKalb, IL during World War II. In 1963, the family moved from Oak Park, IL to Rochelle, IL with the purchase of the A&W Drive-In, where she worked for 20 years. She and the family sold Christmas trees during December and tried to get some fishing in and some travel when the A&W was closed during the winter. A long time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Rochelle, she deepened her life long relationship with Jesus Christ. She enjoyed the many people who worked at the A&W for their first jobs, teaching the lost art of making change and the responsibilities that go with a job in scheduling and working with others. After Joe and Betty sold the drive-in, Betty worked at Walmart as a stocker for several years, retiring at 86 years old. She loved to fish, bake, and work her gardens, until Covid-19 shut things down.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Patty L. (Bob) Robertson; and her sons Edwin E. Dearth, David H. (Anna) Dearth and Donald H. (Jan) Dearth, DC. Betty has been blessed as the matriarch of five generations of family with kids, grandkids, great-grandkids and even two great-great grandsons.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St. in Rochelle with Pastor Doug Forsberg officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle.
