The students of Kings School Combined Math constructed and decorated birdhouses for the annual Oregon Park District Birdhouse Contest. Students used a variety of skills including geometry and problem-solving in the construction, and debated the use of various materials during the decorating phase. The completed birdhouses were then entered in one of two categories, functional or decorative. All 16 birdhouses were displayed in Oregon during judging, and many will be permanently installed throughout the parks. Contest winners, including eighth-grader Taylor Tobler, first place Youth - Decorative, and sixth-grader Torrin Nantz, first place Youth – Functional, were honored at the Oregon Park District Board meeting May 9.
