MARENGO —  Behind a strong third quarter Genoa-Kingston erased a four-point halftime deficit to come from behind and defeat the Rochelle Township High School boys varsity team 56-51 on Thursday afternoon at the EC Nichols Holiday Tournament in Marengo.
The loss comes on the heels of the Hubs knocking off Woodstock 64-62 in the first round of the tournament held on Dec. 22.
The Hubs jumped out to a 12-8 lead after one quarter of play, and Rochelle maintained the four-point advantage at halftime after both teams posted 15 points in the second period.
Rochelle only managed nine points in the third quarter and the Hubs’ lead evaporated when Genoa-Kingston exploded for 19 points to take a 42-36 lead into the final frame.

Rochelle made a surge in the fourth quarter and tied the game up at 42, but Genoa-Kingston eventually pulled away with the win.
Seth Gould led Rochelle with 17 points, while Kaleb Ackland netted 12. Garrett Burdin chipped in with nine for the Hubs and Austin Brown tallied eight points.
Gould brought down 12 rebounds in the game to lead Rochelle, while Ackland pulled in 11 caroms in the contest.
The loss dropped the Hubs into the consolation bracket where they played Harvest Christian on Friday afternoon, and despite a big second half comeback, lost 78-70.
The Hubs came out flat and fell behind 22-8 at the end of one quarter and were trailing 43-22 at halftime, before putting on a furious rally in the last two quarters to close the gap.
Burdin heated up behind the 3-point arc and nailed six 3-point shots and led the Hubs in scoring with 23 points in the game. Brown had 15 points for Rochelle and Gould finished with 10.
The pair of losses drop Rochelle to 4-10 overall on the season.
