Boys Basketball: Luxton scores 31 as Hubs fall at Kaneland

Junior guard finishes 14-of-21 from the field in 86-64 loss

MAPLE PARK — Junior Eli Luxton’s 31 points on 14-of-21 shooting and seven rebounds weren’t enough for the Rochelle Hub varsity basketball team during Tuesday evening’s Interstate 8 Conference matchup against Kaneland.

Four Knights finished in double figures as Kaneland outpaced Rochelle 86-64. Parker Violett and Gevon Grant each scored 18 points for the Knights, while Troyer Carlson added 17 points and Johnny Spallasso totaled 15 points. Sophomore Cayden Moore chipped in 13 points with three rebounds and two assists for the Hubs (6-12, 2-7 Interstate 8), who will face Morris on the road before hosting Streator this weekend.

Rochelle struggled with ball control in the game against the Knights, committing 24 turnovers which led to 37 points for Kaneland. Both teams finished with 19 offensive rebounds, but the Knights held the slight advance in defensive rebounds, outworking Rochelle to a 17-11 margin.

Junior Jack Tracey finished with nine points, five rebounds, three deflections and two assists for the Hubs in the loss. Sophomore Carson Lewis recorded six points and three assists, while Luxton led the Rochelle defense with three steals and four deflections.
