The Rochelle Hub sophomore basketball team defeated Sycamore at home on Friday, winning 44-39 and improving to 4-5 overall. Raul Aguirre led the Hubs with 16 points including 10 in the fourth quarter, while Aidan Darby scored eight points and Daniel Monfils added seven points. The sophomores will play at LaSalle-Peru on Monday, March 1 at 5 p.m.

ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Hub sophomore basketball team defeated Sycamore at home on Friday, winning 44-39 and improving to 4-5 overall. Raul Aguirre led the Hubs with 16 points including 10 in the fourth quarter, while Aidan Darby scored eight points and Daniel Monfils added seven points. The sophomores will play at LaSalle-Peru on Monday, March 1 at 5 p.m.

Darby made two close-range baskets to lead Rochelle in the opening quarter, helping the Hubs build a 12-11 lead entering the second quarter, where Sycamore edged Rochelle 9-8 to tie the game 20-20 at halftime. Monfils drilled a 3-pointer and Aguirre hit two shots down low for Rochelle’s seven third-quarter points. The Hubs led the Spartans 27-26 after three quarters.

Aguirre carried Rochelle in the fourth quarter, finding his rhythm with three low-post baskets including two 3-point plays to extend the Hub lead. A technical foul against the Spartans resulted in two free throws for Aguirre and an inbounds play from Rochelle that resulted in a back-door layup for Monfils. The Hubs outscored Sycamore 17-13 in the fourth quarter.
