Boys Bowling: Hubs concede narrow loss against Sycamore
Powell rolls team-high 608 series as Spartans outlast Rochelle 3,269-3,248
DEKALB — The Rochelle Hub varsity bowling team nearly rallied for an Interstate 8 Conference series victory on Thursday evening, when the purple and white faced Sycamore at Mardi Gras Lanes. Sophomore Andrew Powell rolled a team-high 608 series, while seniors Christian Thorne and Sam Tracey followed with respective series scores of 580 and 574 as the Spartans outlasted Rochelle 3,269-3,248.
Sycamore took the series lead after defeating the Hubs 1,087-1,010 in the first game. Tracey spearheaded the charge for the Rochelle side, shooting a series-best 204 while sophomore Levi Waddle followed with a series-best 199. The Spartans scored a narrow win over the Hubs (4-2, 1-1 Interstate 8) in the second game, edging Rochelle 1,089-1,055 despite a series-best 226 from Powell.
The Hubs saved their best effort for last, scoring a 1,183-1,093 victory in the third and final game of the series. Four bowlers on the Rochelle side threw scores over 200, with Thorne bowling a series-best 226 while Tracey totaled a series-best 222 and senior Jon Alanis recorded a series-best 212. Powell added a 211 for the Hubs, who will compete at Ottawa on Monday before returning home to face Mendota on Tuesday.
