STERLING — The Rochelle Hub varsity bowling team closed out the first week of the regular season on Thursday, falling 3,238-3,082 in a nonconference road match against Sterling. Rochelle (1-2, 0-1 Interstate 8) will host LaSalle-Peru at T-Byrd Lanes on Wednesday, Nov. 16.
Sophomore Logan Frye led the Hubs with a 584 series score, while junior Sam Tracey added a 576 series in the match. Sterling cruised to a 1,152-950 win in the first game, with Tristan Oelrichs firing a 226 to lead the Golden Warriors and Frye rolling a 189 for the Hubs.
Sterling edged the Hubs 1,088-1,078 in the second game. Tracey scored a series-best 227 for the Hubs, while junior Jonathan Alanis followed with a 190 and senior Evin Odle rolled a 179. Mikah Hernandez totaled a 234 and Brenden Stanley added a 224 for the Golden Warriors, who lost the third game to the Hubs 1,054-998 behind Frye’s series-high 242 and Tracey’s 196.
Hernandez finished with a match-high 608 series for Sterling. Freshman Andrew Powell recorded a 532 series score and Alanis landed two pins behind with a 530 series for Rochelle.
