ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Hub varsity bowling team continued its strong start to the 2023-24 season Tuesday evening. Sophomore Andrew Powell rolled a team-high 623 series, while junior Logan Frye fired a 573 series as the Hubs defeated LaSalle-Peru 3,280-2,739 to kick off the Interstate 8 schedule. Rochelle (2-0, 1-0 Interstate 8) will host Sterling on Thursday evening.

The Hubs claimed all three games on Tuesday to clinch a conference sweep over the Cavaliers. Rochelle took the first game 1,052-942, with senior Jonathan Alanis rolling a series-best 197 and Powell shooting a 194 to lead the Rochelle side. Frye followed with a 192 and senior Sam Tracey added a 182 for the Hubs, who crushed LaSalle-Peru 1,121-871 in the second game.

“My teammates were awesome and I’m really happy,” Frye said. “We did much better than we thought we would… It’s amazing to see all of the guys bowl better than we did last year and I love our varsity team. Our goal is to get over the hump this year. My goal for us is to win the conference because we just didn’t have enough last year. I think we’ll have a better chance this year and I’m hoping that we can finish high enough at regionals to make it to sectionals.”

Frye’s series-best 206 was the high score for the Hubs in the second game, where sophomore Levi Waddle contributed a series-best 193 and Powell rolled a 192. Rochelle sealed its sweep over the Cavaliers with a 1,107-926 win during the third game, where Powell threw a series-high 237 and senior Christian Thorne fired a 186. Tracey rolled respective scores of 187 and 180 over the second and third games to finish the match with a 549 series on the Rochelle side.
