FREEPORT — Hub senior Tyler Johnson was the man of honor when the Rochelle varsity boys bowling team battled in the Freeport Sport Shot Championship at 4 Seasons Bowling Center this past week.
Johnson earned the team’s Most Valuable Player award while medaling in sixth place individually with a total score of 1,146 pins over six games on the 2018 Midwest Collegiate Pattern. The Hubs placed 12th overall out of 20 teams with a score of 4,825.
Rochelle logged 748 pins in the first game behind 195 from Johnson and 154 from senior Nick Stevens. The Hubs scored 761 pins in the second game, with Johnson shooting 170 and senior Brady Shank rolling 167.
Johnson’s tournament-best 211 propelled Rochelle in the third game, and senior Dallas Driver added 191 to help the Hubs wrap up their first three-game set with 844 pins. Driver led Rochelle with 180 in the fourth game of tournament play, helping the Hubs shoot 760.
Both Driver (203) and Johnson (204) recorded scores over 200 in the fifth game, when the Hubs totaled a team-best score of 876. Johnson added 201 in the sixth and final game, while Driver rolled 191 to finish with a series score of 1,068 to place 24th individually. The Hubs compiled 836 pins in the final game.
