STERLING — The Rochelle varsity boys bowling team picked up its first victory of the season on Wednesday against Sterling. The Hubs took two games and the series to earn 8-of-10 conference points over the Golden Warriors and improve to 1-2 on the season.
The Golden Warriors edged Rochelle 897-893 in the first game behind Carter Schlegel’s 219. Senior Tyler Johnson led the Hubs with 218, and Johnson rolled a match-high 255 in the second game to help Rochelle even the match with a 1,002-862 win in the middle game. Senior Brady Shank added 243 to help pace Rochelle.
Rochelle capped off its win with a 919-801 victory over Sterling in the third game to take the series by a final score of 2,814-2,560. Senior Nick Stevens threw a season-best 214 to lead the Hubs while Johnson and Shank each added 178. Johnson ended the night with a team-best 651 series and Schlegel led Sterling with 585.
Rochelle will return to action at T-Byrd Lanes on Thursday against Geneseo.
