Boys Bowling: JV Hubs earn sixth-place trophy at Guilford Survivor Tournament

Varsity team finishes 13th in Saturday event at Don Carter Lanes

ROCKFORD — The Rochelle Hub varsity and JV bowling teams competed in the Guilford Survivor Tournament at Don Carter Lanes on Saturday. The JV Hubs brought home the sixth-place trophy, while the varsity Hubs finished 13th out of 22 teams in the tournament. Senior Jon Alanis was named the MVP for the varsity team and sophomore Caleb Mortensen was named the MVP for the JV team.

Varsity

Rochelle compiled a team score of 3,612 over four games. The varsity team scored 831 in the first round of the four-game tournament. Alanis rolled a 189, while sophomore Levi Waddle added a 170 for the Hubs, who shot an 821 in the second game before rolling team scores of 1,014 and 946 over the third and fourth games.

Three Rochelle bowlers fired scores over 200 during the third game, with sophomore Andrew Powell shooting a 226 while Alanis and Waddle followed with respective scores of 215 and 212. Waddle's 201, Alanis' 198 and Powell's 195 were the high individual scores for Rochelle in the fourth game. Alanis finished with a team-high 778 series, while Waddle and Powell recorded 743 and 736 series scores.

JV

The JV team scored 2,896 over four games to qualify for the trophy rounds. Mortensen shot a team-high 658 series with high scores of 185 and 182, while senior Christian Thorne added a 597 series with a high score of 186. Sophomore Wyatt Worthington followed with a 565 series and a high score of 172.
