Boys Bowling: Powell shines as Hubs cruise over South Beloit
Sophomore standout rolls team-high 758 series as Rochelle wins 3,534-2,827
SOUTH BELOIT — Sophomore Andrew Powell enjoyed a career-best performance for the Rochelle Hub varsity bowling team during Tuesday evening's nonconference match against South Beloit. Powell fired a team-high 758 series, averaging over 250 pins per game as the Hubs rolled over the Sobos 3,534-2,827. Rochelle (4-1, 1-0 Interstate 8) will face Sycamore on the road Thursday evening.
The Hubs crushed South Beloit in the opening game, winning 1,258-833. Five Rochelle bowlers threw scores over 200 including Powell, who rolled a team-best and series-best 265 in the first game. Senior Sam Tracey scored a series-best 228, while junior Logan Frye followed with a series-best 207. Senior Jon Alanis and sophomore Levi Waddle recorded series-best scores of 204 and 200.
Rochelle extended its series lead with an 1,150-967 win during the second game, where Powell bowled a 256 to lead the Rochelle side. Frye and Waddle totaled respective scores of 191 and 190 in the middle game for the Hubs, who clinched their series sweep with an 1,126-1,027 win in the third game. Powell's 237 and Waddle's 199 were the high scores for the Hubs in the final game on Tuesday.
Waddle ended the match with a 589 series and Frye finished with a 583 series for the Hubs. Tracey recorded a 598 series after rolling scores of 183 and 187 over the second and third games.
