ROCHELLE — The Hubs claimed their first Interstate 8 Conference game victory of the season when Rochelle returned from winter break and hosted the Ottawa Pirates on Tuesday.

Ottawa surged ahead in the first game, winning by nearly 200 pins before Rochelle bounced back to take the second game and split the series. The Pirates finished strong, however, rallying behind high-series roller Ty Trovero (658) to win the third game and take the series by a score of 3,187-2,950. Rochelle dropped to 0-11 overall with the loss.

Trovero fired 244 in the first game for the Pirates, who won the game 1,105-922. Jordan Goff added 204 and Nelson Brandt recorded 187 on the Ottawa side, while sophomore Maddex Ramos led Rochelle with a 191.

The Hubs brought together their best conference performance of the season in the second game, winning 1,076-1,001. Sophomore Dylan Milton struck nine times, including a five-strike string between the second and sixth frames, to finish with 244. Senior Logan Ortega followed with 231 on the same pair to close out the second-game victory.

Rochelle needed a 109-pin victory in the third game to claim the series, but the Pirates were too strong, outrolling the Hubs 1,081-952 to seal the Ottawa win. Trovero’s 219 and Theo Woodrum’s 201 headlined the Ottawa side, while Ortega’s 193 and Milton’s 174 were the top scores for Rochelle. Milton finished with a team-high 575 series and Ortega added 562.
