ROCHELLE — The senior rollers on Rochelle’s varsity boys bowling team came to play when the Hubs hosted Yorkville for conference play at T-Byrd Lanes on Thursday.
Despite bowling with only four varsity players, Rochelle managed to take two conference points by beating the Foxes in the opening game. However, despite three 600-plus series scores from the Hubs, Yorkville took the second and third games to win the series 3,318-3,168 and move Rochelle to 2-4 on the season.
Senior Brady Shank rolled a team-best 248 in the first game while seniors Tyler Johnson and Dallas Driver added 233 and 217, respectively, to help Rochelle beat Yorkville 1,044-1,025. Yorkville’s Caden Fairless followed his opening 278 with a 221 in the second game to help the Foxes win the middle game 1,119-1,004 despite 220 from Shank.
Rochelle came close in the third game, as Shank fired 218 to finish with a season-best 686 series and Johnson rolled 234 to record a 660 series. Driver also shot 234 to total a 619 series, but Yorkville snuck around the Hubs 1,174-1,120 behind 264 from Fairless, who ended the night with a match-best series of 763. Jackson Nance added 606 for the Foxes with a high of 258.
