ROCHELLE — A season-high series score wasn’t enough for the Rochelle Hub varsity bowling team during Thursday evening’s nonconference rematch against Sterling at T-Byrd Lanes.

Senior Evin Odle and freshman Andrew Powell each eclipsed the 600-series mark as the Hubs maintained a slim lead over the Golden Warriors after two games. Although Rochelle bowled well in the third game, where three players rolled scores over 195, Sterling emerged victorious with a strong third game of its own to win the series count by a final total of 3,325-3,279. Odle led the Hubs (3-5, 2-2 Interstate 8) with a 658 series and Powell followed with a 631 series.

Rochelle took the lead early in the match, claiming the first game 1,012-957. Odle fired a 199 for the Hubs, while Powell recorded a 175. Juniors Sam Tracey and Jonathan Alanis totaled scores of 172 and 170 for Rochelle, with Mikah Hernandez shooting a 178 to lead the Golden Warriors.

Sterling’s comeback effort began with a 1,147-1,116 win over the Hubs in the second game, where Powell shined with a series-best 258 and Odle followed with a series-best 245. Bryce Kooy and Dylan Doss were the high rollers for the Golden Warriors, shooting 221 and 203.

Rochelle held a 24-pin series lead entering the third game, where the Hubs bowled admirably but fell just short in a 1,219-1,151 loss. Freshman Owen Tooley emerged with a 225 on the Rochelle side, while Odle threw a 214 and Tracey added a 200. Hernandez led the Golden Warriors with a 224, while Tristan Oelrichs recorded a 223 and Shae Hanson added a 209.
