ROCHELLE — Senior Logan Ortega and junior Keith Holland each cleared the 600-pin threshold when the Rochelle boys bowling team took over T-Byrd Lanes for a nonconference home match against the Oregon Hawks on Monday.

The two upperclassmen led the Hubs to their best performance of the season, as the purple and white took one game from the Hawks and totaled over 3,100 pins in the match. Oregon’s dominant opening game was enough to take the series, however, as the Hawks edged out Rochelle in the finale to win 3,465-3,112 and drop the Hubs to 0-5 on the season. Ortega finished with a team-high 619 series for Rochelle while Holland recorded 611.

Oregon blew Rochelle away in the first game, winning 1,267-901 to steal momentum away from the home team. Jacob Smith rolled 245 and Isaac Kaltenbrun bowled 234 to lead the Hawks, while Kyle Strite added 218. Junior John Henson scored 201 for the Hubs to start the series, with Ortega adding 172 and Holland chipping in 167.

The Hubs rallied behind Ortega’s 255 and Holland’s 235 in the second game, topping Oregon 1,097-1,069. Rochelle nearly stole the third game from the Hawks, falling 1,153-1,114 despite 209 from Holland, 192 from Ortega and 189 from sophomore Maddex Ramos. Strite bowled 215 to finish with a team-best 617 series, Nico Giuffre added 214 and Charlie Bachman scored 202.
