Boys Soccer: Hubs fall in road match at Sycamore

Salazar, Garcia score goals in 5-2 loss

SYCAMORE — The Rochelle Hub varsity soccer team continued the Interstate 8 Conference schedule with a road match against Sycamore on Monday. Sophomore defender Bryan Garcia and junior forward Diego Salazar each scored in a 5-2 loss to the Spartans. Rochelle (7-6, 4-2 Interstate 8) will kick off the conference tournament on Monday, Sept. 26.

Sycamore owned the shot advantage in the match, outpacing Rochelle 27-16 and 21-9 in shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Jarett Milan finished with 10 saves for the Hubs in the loss. Rochelle scored first in the match, taking a 1-0 lead after sophomore forward Fernando Diaz assisted Salazar during the first minute.

The Spartans converted the equalizer in the 17th minute to even the score at 1-1, which remained the score until halftime. Sycamore took the lead with a goal during the 45th minute before adding another goal in the 67th minute to surge ahead 3-1. Garcia blasted an unassisted goal into the Sycamore net during the 77th minute, cutting the Spartan lead to 3-2 before Sycamore iced the win with consecutive goals in the 79th and 80th minutes.
