Redskins outlast Rochelle after 2-2 score in regulation time

MORRIS — The Rochelle Hub varsity soccer team was tied with Morris after 80 minutes of regulation time on Thursday evening. With both teams even at 2-2, Rochelle and Morris went into a penalty-kick shootout, with the Redskins ultimately emerging victorious to hand the Hubs an Interstate 8 Conference loss.

Juniors Alberto Casillas and Fernando Diaz each scored goals for the Hubs (3-8-2, 1-5 Interstate 8), while sophomore Antonio Hueramo finished with four saves. Rochelle outshot Morris 18-12, but the Redskins were even in shots on goal, with each team recording eight in the match.

The Hubs led Morris 1-0 after Diaz scored an unassisted goal during the fourth minute. The Redskins found their equalizer midway through the first half, scoring in the 21st minute to even the score at 1-1. Rochelle regained control late in the first half, with Casillas scoring in the 37th minute.

Rochelle held a 2-1 halftime advantage over the Redskins, who once again tied the score after a goal during the 59th minute. The Hubs will host Ottawa for another conference match Monday evening.
