OREGON — The Rochelle boys soccer program finished second at the Oregon Junior Varsity Tournament this past weekend, going 3-0 overall as the Hubs showcased their depth with victories against Dixon, Harvard and Genoa-Kingston.

While many players haven’t had the opportunity to shine on the varsity field this season, the boys proved their abilities this past weekend. Rochelle dominated Genoa-Kingston 8-0 with sophomores Giovanni Romero and Brayan Orozco each scoring twice. Alexis Quintanilla, Josue Orozco, Caleb Ritter and Lazaro Gutierres also notched goals for the Hubs. Josue Orozco and Juan Cincire led Rochelle with two assists each.

“I thought the boys played really well,” head coach Brad Male said. “I’m looking forward to seeing some of the kids who haven’t had much playing time hopefully step up later this year and stick with the program.”

Brayan Orozco, Josue Orozco and Gutierrez each scored one goal in Rochelle’s 3-1 victory against Harvard, with Brayan adding one assist. Cincire recorded Rochelle’s other assist, while Diego Lopez had one save in goal.

Brayan Orozco scored twice while Mason DeLille added a goal in Rochelle’s 3-1 win over Dixon. Three Hub assists came courtesy of Damien Salinas, Josue Orozco and Brayan Orozco. Quintanilla earned two saves for Rochelle in the win.

“Some of the kids just need the playing time, and I think others are progressing well,” Male said. “Hopefully we can build numbers on the program going into next year… We have a lot of talent and depth in our varsity program, and some of those bench players stepped up and showed us what they can do this past weekend.”

Rochelle resumes action at home on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. when the Hubs kick off Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference play against Ottawa. As the season progresses, Male is confident his team’s depth will become a key strength with many players earning quality reps at the tournament this past weekend.

“I look for all of the kids to make it through our practices and just focus on what we’re doing,” Male said. “Most of our kids are easy to play, but the unfortunate thing when we don’t have a full junior varsity squad is that they don’t get a lot of playing time. This tournament helps those kids out, and I think the conditioning of our kids showed.”
