The Rochelle Hub varsity soccer team faced Ottawa on Monday, holding off the Pirates 6-5 in a back-and-forth matchup to end Interstate 8 play with a 5-2 record. Rochelle improved to 7-7 overall and will receive the No. 3 seed for the conference tournament.

OTTAWA — The Rochelle Hub varsity soccer team faced Ottawa on Monday, holding off the Pirates 6-5 in a back-and-forth matchup to end Interstate 8 play with a 5-2 record. Rochelle improved to 7-7 overall and will receive the No. 3 seed for the conference tournament.

Senior Josue Orozco led the Hubs with four goals, while sophomore Eli Luxton and junior Jared Montano each added one goal. Luxton and freshman Alberto Casillas each recorded one assist.

Ottawa gained the early lead, scoring in the third minute before Rochelle answered on Orozco’s first goal of the match, with an assist from Luxton, in the 12th minute. Orozco followed with his second goal in the 15th minute to give the Hubs a 2-1 advantage, but the Pirates struck back, answering in the 28th minute and jumping ahead with another goal during the 31st minute.

Montano equalized the match with a goal in the 40th minute, making the score 3-3 at halftime. Casillas connected with Orozco for his third goal during the 55th minute, giving the Hubs a 4-3 lead before Ottawa bounced back once again with a goal in the 59th minute. The Pirates surged ahead 5-4 with a goal in the 66th minute before Rochelle finished the match strong, scoring on goals from Orozco and Luxton in the 70th and 79th minutes to seal the victory over Ottawa.

Belvidere

The Rochelle Hub varsity soccer team battled Belvidere this past Saturday, suffering a 7-1 loss and falling to 6-7 overall. Sophomore Eli Luxton scored Rochelle’s lone goal on an assist from senior Josue Orozco, while freshman Aleandro Alvarado recorded seven saves in the match.
