ROCHELLE — The Hub varsity soccer team entered Wednesday’s match against Ottawa having scored only three goals over the first five matches of the season. Rochelle doubled that number in one outing, with senior Zane Walters netting four goals as the Hubs beat the Pirates 6-1. Rochelle (2-3-1) will host the Sandwich Indians at home on Saturday, April 3 at 10 a.m.

The Hubs took the lead in the first minute of the match, needing only a few touches on the ball before senior Juan Cincire assisted Walters from outside the Ottawa box for Rochelle’s first goal. After the Pirates equalized with a long-range shot in the 15th minute, Rochelle regained control in the 18th minute, when Cincire set his sophomore brother Diego up for a goal on the right side of the Pirate box to put the Hubs ahead 2-1, Cincire totaled three assists in the win.

“We had a lot of communication today and we definitely played well,” Cincire said. “We played the ball wide at the beginning and that’s what allowed us to score our goals. I was able to hear my teammates well today, I knew where they were and we centered the ball when we had to.”

CIncire and Walters connected for another goal in the 19th minute, extending Rochelle’s lead to 3-1 before Walters completed the hat trick on a cross from freshman Diego Salazar in the 32nd minute. Capping off a stellar offensive performance, Walters took a corner kick for the Hubs in the 34th minute, using the wind to his aid and bending the ball into the Ottawa net. Leading 5-1, Rochelle received some help when Ottawa committed an own goal in the 38th minute.

“We definitely outhustled the other team and we need to continue doing that,” Cincire said. “We don’t have much depth right now, so we have to work together and push each other.”
