SOMONAUK — Humbled from their tough loss against Earlville on Tuesday, members of the Rochelle boys soccer team were highly motivated to get back on track when the Hubs battled Somonauk on the road Wednesday evening.

Behind two goals from sophomore Josue Orozco and an opening goal from junior Zane Walters, the Hubs bounced back from their first loss of the season, defeating Somonauk by a score of 3-0 on Wednesday to improve to 2-1 overall. Both teams went nearly 20 minutes without scoring before senior midfielder Carlos Nambo found Walters for the opening goal in the 17th minute.

“We wanted to be undefeated this season,” Walters said. “We came out with more anger and determination to win on Wednesday. I made a run into space and Carlos played me a ball in the zone. I made a good touch on the defender and found the far post.”

Rochelle went ahead 2-0 two minutes later, when Nambo connected with Orozco in the 19th minute and logged his second assist of the evening. The Hubs created more distance in the 25th minute when Orozco cashed in on an assist from junior Juan Cincire and gave Rochelle a three-goal advantage.

“We need to keep working hard and we need to keep talking to each other,” Orozco said. “We can’t ever give up. I’m trying to score in every game to help our team win. I want to keep working with everybody so we can get our best shots on goal. We want to go to state, and we have to work hard for everything.”

Senior keeper Alexis Quintanilla totaled three saves for the Hubs, as the Rochelle defense stood tall and recorded its second shutout of the season. Rochelle outshot Somonauk 20-2 and 11-2 in shots on goal.
