Boys Tennis: Hubs sweep nonconference match over Mendota
Rochelle takes down Trojans 5-0 on Monday
MENDOTA — The Rochelle Hub varsity tennis team opened its final week of the regular season with a nonconference sweep against Mendota on Monday evening. All three doubles combos emerged victorious, with both singles players earning wins in a 5-0 victory over the Trojans.
Senior Paul Swartz and freshman Mark Green dropped only one game in their 6-1, 6-0 win over Trekker Klema and Landon Lee at the No. 3 doubles court. Seniors John Green and Nolan Fonfara played a perfect second set during their 6-3, 6-0 win over Dagen Setchell and Landon Bauer at the No. 2 doubles court. Seniors David Wanner and Owen Haas had minimal trouble during their 6-2, 6-3 win against Johnny Diaz and Cameron Escatel at the No. 1 doubles court.
Juniors Parker Lenkaitis and Jimmy Chavez each earned three-set victories in singles play, with Lenkaitis outlasting Matthew Miller 6-1, 3-6, 10-4 and Chavez defeating Clayton Buffington 5-7, 6-4, 12-10 in a hard-fought battle. Rochelle (10-6, 1-4 Interstate 8) will face Freeport on the road Wednesday evening before hosting Newman Central Catholic on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
