The Hubs snapped their 16-match losing streak and improved to 2-18 on the season.

FREEPORT — The Rochelle varsity boys tennis team turned in one of its strongest performances of the season on Saturday, taking third place in the Freeport Invitational with victories against Rockford East and Marengo and losses to Freeport and Jacobs. The Hubs snapped their 16-match losing streak and improved to 2-18 on the season.
Rochelle defeated Rockford East by a score of 4-1. Seniors Emilio Nava (10-3) and Hector Garcia (10-0) secured wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, while seniors Diego Lopez and Caden Manning won 10-4 at No. 2 doubles. East forfeited the match at No. 3 doubles.
Freeport edged out Rochelle by a score of 3-2. Junior Sean Flanagan took a close match over Caden Geiser 10-9(3) at No. 2 singles, while senior Gage Sullivan and junior Gabe Nava won 10-4 over Pablo Legaz and Juan Diego Cruz Rodriguez at No. 3 doubles. Jacobs cruised over Rochelle by a score of 5-0.
The Hubs swept Marengo by a score of 5-0 to close out the invitational. Emilio Nava (10-5) and freshman Jason Zheng (10-2) locked down victories at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, while Sean Flanagan and Hector Garcia won 10-3 at No. 1 doubles. Gage Sullivan and Gabe Nava earned their 10-8 win at No. 3 doubles. Marengo forfeited the No. 2 doubles match.
